ATHENS, Ga. – Sarah Nelson dove to a 13th-place finish on platform for the Iowa State diving team Thursday on the final day of the Georgia Diving Invitational.
"Overall I do think it was a better day," Iowa State diving coach Jeff Warrick said. "It was not our best platform day ever but they came in ready to compete. We still had some misses and that is what cost us from being at our very best."
The senior Nelson scored a 194.75 on her five-dive list. Warrick was pleased with the progress Nelson continues to make.
"One thing that she had been having trouble with was kicking out on her back 2 ½ tuck," Warrick observed. "She did much better with that today and that is a breakthrough for her. That will benefit her down the road at the Big 12 Championships and zones."
Dani Davis was second among the Cyclone contingent on the day, finishing 18th with a 167.30. Jessica Henderson was right behind her in 19th-placewith a score of 165.25. Megan Cohea finished 21st at 143.50 and Marley Dobyns rounded out the Cyclone diving group on the day in 22nd with 113.05.
"It was great to see this level of competition in a championship meet situation," Warrick concluded. "We now have to make adjustments for the end of the year. We did a lot of training while we were dowm here along with the competition. We were not totally fresh due to working so much and they understand that at the end of the year we will be training less to be ready for the big meets."
The Iowa State swimming and diving squad return to competition Friday, Jan. 27 at Nebraska-Omaha with a 6 p.m. dual meet. They will follow that up with a 1 p.m. dual at Nebraska on Jan. 28.
