Caldwell Sets School Record at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif.- Several distance runners from the Iowa State women's track and field team set personal records, inculding a school recording setting performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Friday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California.
Abby Caldwell broke teammate Colleen Riley's 3,000-meter steeplechase record, breaking the tape in 10:32.43. The Waverly native earned third place in the second section of the race. Caldwell's time ranks as the 10th-fastest time ran this season in the nation.
Erin Hooker moved herself into ninth overall on the Iowa State all-time top performers list with a 16:11.94 in the 5,000-meter run. The Fort Collins, Colorado native cut over 12 seconds off her previous career-best time.
Evelyne Guay won the eighth section of the women's 1,500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:30.32. Heidi Engelhardt also recorded a personal best time in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:31.06.
A number of Cyclones also competed at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama. Henry Kelley kicked off the weekend for the Iowa State throws squad heaving a personal best mark of 188-00 to take eighth place in the hammer throw. The Waukee native has posted a personal best mark in both outdoor meets this season.
Anna Holtermann and Kayla Sanborn represented the women's side of the hammer throw coming in second and fourth, respectively. Holtermann's mark of 175-07 was more than six feet further than the third place toss.
Freshman Jhoanmy Luque finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 42-01.50. The Venezuela native's mark ranks second on the Iowa State all-time top ten performers list. Luque entered the week with the 12th-best mark in the country.
Brian Llamas and Toby Hardwick will kick off the running action for the Cyclones at the Tiger Track Classic tomorrow at 12:35 p.m. CT with the men's 1,500-meter run. Cameron Ostrowski and Jalen Ford are set to begin the high jump at 11:30 a.m. CT.
