LINCOLN, Nebraska – An Iowa State relay team and another strong performance by Taylor Sanderson highlighted the Iowa State day two efforts Saturday at the Holiday Inn Invitational.
The Cyclone women left the Bob Devaney Sports Center with a 4x400-meter relay victory, in which ISU had to come from behind to claim the victory. Meanwhile Sanderson earned himself a pair of personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles as he continued his preparations for the multi-event campaign.
The Iowa State women closed out the weekend with another event victory, but it was not easy for the Cyclones. Iowa State was in second behind hosts Nebraska heading into the final leg, after going ahead of Drake in the third leg. It was left to freshman Jasmine Staebler to close things out, and the Guttenberg, Iowa native took care of business, closing in 55.88 to get the quarter of Erinn Stenman-Fahey, Alyssa Gonzalez, Emma Whigham and Staebler the win in 3:50.74
Taylor Sanderson closed out a successful weekend with a pair of personal records in the 60-meter hurdles. To qualify for the final, the senior multis All-American finished fourth in a personal best 8.14. That time lasted less than an hour, as he finished fifth in the finals in 8.13. The time moved Sanderson into a tie for 10th in ISU history in the 60-meter hurdles, joining Jamal Currica and Logan Schneider at 8.13.
Whigham had a nice debut in the 400-meter dash, with the Bettendorf native finishing sixth in the quarter-mile in 57.69. Jackie Feist also had a solid outing in the 600-meter run, checking in at seventh in 1:38.61.
