AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team will open the Big 12 portion of its 2016-17 slate Friday night with a trip to Fort Worth, Texas, to face the TCU Horned Frogs. The meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at TCU's University Recreation Center.
The Cyclones have won their last two Big 12 openers – both coming over TCU – including a narrow 157-143 victory in their last trip to Fort Worth two seasons ago.
Last Time Out
Iowa State won 10-of-13 events against UN-Omaha en route to its first victory of the season. The Cyclones opened the meet strong by taking the top-two spots in the first six events of the meet and went on to a 154-85 triumph. Becky Stochl and Maggie James both used the one-meter board to secure their second-straight trip to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
Diving Deeper with TCU
The Horned Frogs hold a 1-1 record on the season overall and a 0-1 mark in Big 12 meets. TCU opened the year with a 121-76 win over Texas-Permian Basin, winning 8-of-11 events. The Horned Frogs then fell on the road at Kansas, 190-108, to open Big 12 competition.
Junior Ty Sides has led TCU in the diving well this season after sweeping both events against Kansas by nearly 20 points apiece. Freshman Elise Forzley has been one of the Frogs' leaders in the lanes, taking home wins in the 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke this season to go along with a pair of second-place finishes.
TCU is led by 38th-year head coach Richard Sybesma, who owns a 425-288-4 record as coach of both the women's and men's programs. Iowa State has won its last two matchups with TCU to take a 2-1 lead in the all-time series.
