The Cyclones competing this weekend will be looking to join decathlete
Taylor Sanderson at the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 8-11 at the University of Oregon and Hayward Field. The top-48 student-athletes in each event will be battling to be in the top-12, and earn that trip to Oregon.
The Cyclones will be led by a trio of student-athletes looking to make repeat trips to Hayward Field. Christina Hillman will look to make her fourth NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance in the shot put, and will also be competing in the discus. Jan Jeuschede will be looking to advance to Eugene for the third-straight season in the men's shot put, and will be joined in the shot put by freshman teammate Nace Plesko. A year after setting her personal best in the long jump at West Prelims, Jhoanmy Luque will look to make her second-straight trip to Hayward Field in the triple jump and long jump.
Daniel Everett has previously gone to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2013 when he was a student-athlete at Columbia University. The graduate student, and redshirt senior will look to return as a Cyclone in the men's 5,000-meter run. He will be joined by NCAA West Preliminaries debutant Nathan Rodriguez in the 5K.
A trio of Cyclones will be looking to take the next step, and advance to Eugene after having previously qualified for the West Prelims. Erin Hooker made it last year in the 5,000-meter run, and this season she will give it a go in the 10,000-meter run. Derek Jones got his second West Prelims bid last season in the 400-meter hurdles, and will look to advance a round further this season. Evelyne Guay is also back, taking on the challenge of the 1,500-meter run a year after making it in the 800-meter run.
Joining Plesko and Rodriguez as West Preliminaries debutants will be eight more first-timers in Bethanie Brown (women's 5,000-meter run), Jalen Ford (men's high jump), Alexandru Mitirica (men's triple jump) Kelly Naumann (women's 3,000-meter steeplechase), Deon Sanders (men's 400-meter dash) Jasmine Staebler (women's 800-meter run), Erinn Stenman-Fahey (women's 800-meter run) and Brandon Wheat (men's 800-meter run).
