AMES, Iowa - The "Road to Eugene" ends tomorrow at Hayward Field when the Iowa State track and field team begins the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The men get competition going on Wednesday with
Taylor Sanderson beginning the dectathlon competition at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.
Derek Jones will take to the track for the 400-mter hurdles semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Central, with an eye on making the eight-man final on Friday at 8:57 p.m. CT. On Thursday, Sanderson will conclude his decathlon, with events starting at 12:30 p.m. Central. The women's competition also begins on Thursday with
Jhoanmy Luque in the long jump at 8 p.m. CT, and
Christina Hillman in the shot put at 8:30 p.m. CT.
Luque will wrap up the Cyclones' competition docket on Saturday with the triple jump at 5:30 p.m. Central.

Taylor Sanderson will close out his Iowa State career in the decathlon against what some are calling the best decathlon in the history of the NCAA Championships. The Bondurant native and Big 12 champion in the decathlon, Sanderson is the No. 16 seed this weekend.
Derek Jones will be making his first appearance in the NCAA Championships after qualifying at the NCAA West Prelims last weekend. Jones, who will earn his first All-America honor this weekend, was third in the Big 12 Championships in the 400-meter hurdles.
Christina Hillman will be closing out a historic career this weekend, with a third national title and/or a seventh First Team All-America honor among the goals. This is Hillman's fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
A year after making it to Eugene in the long jump,
Jhoanmy Luque will be doing the double this season with the long jump on Thursday and the triple jump on Saturday. The Venezuelan is the No. 12 seed in both competitions, having come off a career-best effort at 43-3 3/4 in the triple jump at the NCAA West Prelims a fortnight ago.
