AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women's long jumper Allanah McCorkle has been named the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. The senior kicked off the outdoor season last weekend with a win at the Tulsa Duels with one of the best marks in the country.
McCorkle, a senior from Davenport, led an Iowa State sweep of the top-three spots in the women's long jump at the Tulsa Duels last weekend. McCorkle busted out a best jump of 19-11 1/2, over six inches further than her previous best leap. The jump moved her up to No. 5 in Iowa State history as she was making her Cyclone outdoor track and field debut.
After the first full weekend of outdoor track and field competition around the country, McCorkle ranks atop the Big 12 and tied for fourth in Division I with her 19-11 1/2 effort.
McCorkle and the Cyclones are back in action next weekend at the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
