Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (8-11, 0-3 Big 12) won its match Thursday against the Drake Bulldogs, 4-3.
Iowa State secured the doubles point, as the No. 2 and No. 3 Cyclone pairings both won their matches. Annabella Bonadonna and Erin Freeman, who played at the No. 2 position, won their match against Bulldogs' Summer Brills and Kenya Williams, 6-4. At the No. 3 spot, Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova defeated Joely Lomas and Mela Jaglarz, 6-2. No. 1 duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola's fell to Tess Herder and Liza Petushkova, 7-6 (7-5).
No. 5 singles player Timakova bounced back in her three-set singles match against Kenya Williams, winning, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 6 singles position, Bonadonna dominated her match, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Jaglarz. Repina also won her singles match as she faced Herder at the No. 3 spot. She went on to win, 6-2, 6-2.
Espindola, who played at the No. 2 position, faced Petushkova, where she fell, 7-6, 6-3, 6-5. Maty Cancini lost her singles match to Summer Brills, 6-2, 6-1, while Erin Freeman fell to Joely Lomas at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-1.
Next weekend, Iowa State will stay at home to host a match on Friday, April 6 and Sunday, April 8. On Friday at 3 p.m., the Cyclones will take on Kansas. On Sunday at 10 a.m., ISU will host Kansas State. It will be announced later next week if the matches will be played in Urbandale or Ames.
