URBANDALE, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team fell to No. 16 Kansas, 4-0, Friday afternoon at Life Time Fitness. With the loss, ISU falls to 9-11 overall and 0-4 in Big 12 action. Kansas improves to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in league action.
Kansas took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
The Jayhawks' Janet Koch and Amber Policare beat Annabella Bonadonna and Erin Freeman, 6-0, to gain the early edge. At No. 3, Despoina Vogasari and Maria Toran Ribes clinched the point with a 6-2 win over the Cyclones' Margarita Timakova and Ekaterina Repina.
Kansas then gained control in singles play quickly with Nina Khmelnitckaia downing Erin Freeman, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot to go up 2-0 in the match.
With the Cyclones battling at the No. 1 and No. 5 slots, Kansas won the match with victories at No. 4 and No. 2, respectively.
Jayhawk Maria Toran Ribes beat Ekaterina Repina, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles and Janet Koch finished the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Iowa State returns to action Sunday when it hosts Kansas State at 10 a.m. at Life Time Fitness.
