AMES, Iowa – A busy weekend awaits the Iowa State track and field teams, as the Cyclones will be represented at four meets around the country.
The sprints, hurdles, throws and jumps groups will be headed to Nebraska for the Husker Invite on Friday and Saturday. The men's trio of Andrew Jordan, Edwin Kurgat and Festus Lagat head to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Camel City Elite on Friday and Saturday. Also on Saturday, the Cyclones will be represented by Dan Curts and Milo Greder at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White at Boston University.
Meanwhile, on the cross country course, freshman Chad Johnson will represent ISU in the junior 8K at the USATF Cross Country National Championships in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday morning.
At Nebraska, the Cyclone throwers and jumpers will be back in action after a weekend off. Vlad Pavlenko will be making his first appearance in the weight throw since taking down ISU's school record two weeks ago in Iowa City. On the track, Keira Christie-Galloway has had a big first two meets in the 60m hurdles and will look to continue to move up the record board this weekend.
In Winston-Salem, the ISU men's distance trio will encounter many of the nation's top collegiate and professional runners. Jordan will run Friday in the mile against a field led by former Oklahoma State All-American Craig Nowak. On Saturday, Lagat takes on a mile elite field which includes former Oregon star Edward Cheserek, while Kurgat's 3,000m Elite race features former Villanova national champion Patrick Tiernan and Oklahoma State star Kirubel Erassa.
Up in Boston, Curts and Greder will take part in the mile run, while Greder is also entered in the 1,000m. Both have had strong starts to their seasons, with Curts going 7:55.26 in the 3,000m at the UW Invite last weekend and a 4:04.70 in the mile two weeks ago in Iowa City. Greder's first indoor season as a Cyclone has seen him go 1:53.75 at 800m and 4:07.51 in the mile.
Lastly, Chad Johnson heads back to the cross country course for a chance to claim a junior national title on the cross country course. The Cyclones do have a history at the USATF Cross Country Championships, with Thomas Pollard winning the junior men's division in 2016. Johnson had a huge freshman season for the Cyclones in XC, earning All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region honors. During indoor track season, Johnson clocked an 8:11.23 at 3,000m in Iowa City two weeks ago.
