Iowa State Takes on Championship-Style Meets

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (3-2, 0-0 Big 12) splits up as the swimmers head to Topeka for the Kansas Classic from Nov. 22-24 and the divers travel to Columbia for the Mizzou Invite from Nov. 21-23. The events go down as the first championship-style meet of the season for both swimmers and divers.

THE EVENT- Kansas Classic

The Cyclones came in second behind Kansas at the Kansas Classic last year. This year, the Cyclones will face Kansas, UNI, Little Rock, North Texas, Omaha and Miami. Anna Andersen and Elynn Tan return this year after ending last year's event as the top-two scorers for Iowa State. The duo was also named to the Kansas Classic All-Invite team in 2018. Freshman will look to contribute as they account for six individual events wins and have taken part in two relay wins this season.

THE EVENT- Mizzou Invite

Last year, the divers took part in the Iowa Invitational. In this meet, Dana Liva qualified for Zones on the platform; the event she currently holds the school record in.

A total of nine Zone diving qualifying scores have been posted this season. The divers displayed their authority on the boards tallying seven Zone cuts in their last weekend of competition.

LAST TIME- South Dakota and Rutgers

The Cyclones went 1-1 on the weekend with a large victory over South Dakota and a narrow loss to Rutgers. Iowa State took all event wins from South Dakota and five from Rutgers. Jayna Misra became the first freshman to achieve a Zone cut since Sydney Ronald in 2015.

ON DECK- Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series

Iowa State returns to Beyer Pool to face the Iowa Hawkeyes for the 45th time. In last year's contest, the Cyclones lead the Hawkeyes early on, but could not hold on. The loss nearly closed in on a win, signifying the closest finish since 2009 where the Cyclones won.
