AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field season begins on Saturday with a star-studded affair as some of ISU's top student-athletes head to Boston for the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. Central Time at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
FloTrack will stream the meet via its premium service FloPro, here. Live results will be provided by Lancer Timing, here.
Just two weeks after the conclusion of the cross country season, three of the Cyclones' top competitors head to Boston looking to claim NCAA Indoor Championships qualifying times on the first weekend of the season.
Headlining the group is NCAA Men's Cross Country champion Edwin Kurgat, who will compete in the 5,000-meter run at 5 p.m. Central Time. Kurgat qualified for last season's NCAA Indoor Championships at 5K, breaking ISU's 28-year old school record in 13:34.54 at the Iowa State Classic. Kurgat finished ninth at 5,000 at the NCAA Indoor Championships back in March.
Festus Lagat will be looking for a sub-4-minute mile this weekend in the men's mile, which starts at 10:24 a.m. Central. Lagat, who boasts a personal best of 4:00.83 ran at the UW Invitational in January, will get some Cardinal & Gold help as Daniel Nixon and Roshon Roomes have made the trip and will be doing pacing duties for the Kenyan in the mile. Nixon, the Mississippi State transfer who will be making his ISU debut, and Roomes, are also entered to run in the men's 1,000-meter run at 1:42 p.m. Central.
For the Cyclone women, Cailie Logue will look to keep the momentum going from her All-American cross country season against an elite field in the women's 5,000-meter run, slated to go off a 3:40 p.m. Central. Logue, who also claimed the Big 12 and NCAA Midwest Region titles in cross country for a second-straight season, will be among a field that includes entries from seven of the top-10 from the NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships last month, including national champion Weini Kelati of New Mexico.
