Iowa State Falls to Iowa in Cy-Hawk Tennis

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa State (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) fell to Iowa (5-0, 0-0 Big Ten) Friday night in Cy-Hawk action at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
Ekaterina Grib and Margarita Timakova got things started for the Cyclones by defeating Ashleigh Jacobs and Cloe Ruette 6-1 in the #3 doubles spot.
Maty Cancini and Annabella Bonadonna secured the doubles point for Iowa State in the #1 doubles slot, downing Samantha Mannix and Sophie Clark, 6-3. Cancini and Bonadonna have a 14-4 doubles record this season and have won nine of their last 11.
Iowa State got off to a good start in singles play before Iowa got the best of the Cyclones. Maty Cancini got off to a 6-1 start against Iowa's Samantha Mannix before falling 4-6, 0-6 in the final two sets.
The Hawkeyes won the #2, #4 and #6 matches to finish off the Cy-Hawk series.
The Cyclones are back in action Sunday against West Virginia. Iowa State and the Mountaineers square off at 9 a.m. at the Life Time Fitness in Urbandale.
