AUSTIN, Texas – The Iowa State diving team returns to the University of Texas for the 2019 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on Mar. 11 through 13. Dana Liva qualified for Zones in all three disciplines, while Sydney Ronald will compete on both springboards.
Both divers have had success on the three-meter board, each posting scores over 300 in the dual meet against Kansas. Ronald's 306.38 and Liva's 204.35 were both personal-best scores for the duo, placing them seventh and eighth in Iowa State history. Liva had five zone-qualifying scores on the season, the first coming against Nebraska. Ronald missed time early in the season, but hit the mark in five out of nine attempts. On one-meter, Liva (282.40) first qualified at Iowa, then set her best score against Northern Iowa. Ronald (269.85) hit the cut mark in the Illinois State dual and bested her score in the following meet against West Virginia.
Liva is the school record holder on the platform, setting the record at last season's Big 12 Championship at 283.40. This season, she has hit the zone mark twice, once at the Iowa Invitational (234.45) and another at the Big 12 Championship (231.90). Both divers are looking to become the first Cyclone diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Tien Tran did so in 2010.
