Iowa State Comeback Falls Short Against TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - Iowa State's comeback fell short as the Cyclones (5-5, 1-1 Big 12) dropped their match to TCU (8-4, 2-0 Big 12) Friday evening, 5-2. Five of the six singles matches went to a third set in a close Big 12 matchup.
TCU got out to an early 3-0 lead, but Iowa State didn't go away. The Cyclones battled back to within 3-2 of the Horned Frogs before eventually falling, 5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Horned Frogs charged out to an early lead after clinching the doubles point. Margarita Timakova fell in the No. 6 slot to Addy Guevara, 6-1, 6-1.
The Cyclones didn't go away after falling behind 3-0, however. Ekaterina Repina got Iowa State on the board with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Kate Paulus. Ekaterina Grib pulled the Cyclones to within one, defeating Mercedes Aristegui, 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.
Regina Espindola got off to a commanding start in the No. 2 singles match, taking the first set over Aleksa Cveticanin, 6-0. Espindola eventually fell in a hard-fought three-set match, 6-0, 3-6, 4-6.
TCU clinched the match after Maty Cancini dropped a three-set heartbreaker to Ellie Douglas, 7-5, 1-6, 6-7 (2-7). Annabella Bonadonna put up a fight in the No. 6 slot, but fell to Chloe Hule, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Iowa State travels west for a match with No. 25 Texas Tech Sunday at noon. The Cyclones are looking for their first win over the Lady Raiders in program history.
