TUCSON, Ariz. – The Iowa State women's golf team fired a blistering 268 (20-under) in the final round of the MountainView Collegiate this afternoon to claim the team title with a school-record 836.
The Cyclones were five shots out of the lead heading into the final round, but rallied with a school-record 268 to win the tournament by 14 strokes. It was ISU's first stroke play tournament victory since 2012 (Dick McGuire Invitational). ISU won the East-West Match Play in 2017.
Iowa State had all five players below par in its final round today and three players placed in the top-10.
Joy Chou was on fire in the final round. The sophomore fired a school-record 64 (8-under) to tie for second at 208. She had six birdies, an eagle and no bogies on her card today en route to her top career finish. The former school mark was 65 held by Chonlada Chayanun.
Chayanit Wangmahaporn was also a pacesetter for the Cyclones, racking up her 13th career top-10 performance by tying for fourth at 209. Wangmahaporn was below par in all three rounds (71-68-70).
Amelia Grohn posted her fourth career top-10 finish by placing sixth at 210. Grohn shot rounds of 72-70-68 to set a personal career-low 54-hole mark.
Alanna Campbell tied for 33rd, but made a huge jump with a final-round 66, which ties for the third-lowest score in school history.
The Cyclones are back in action at the Silverado Showdown, April 7-9 in Napa, Calif.
