FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Wesley Kiptoo added to his growing collection of school records Saturday at the Razorback Invitational, as he took down ISU's school record in the men's 3,000-meter run.
Kiptoo finished third in competition in 7:48.36, taking down Edwin Kurgat's school record set at the 2020 Millrose Games. It was Kiptoo's second school record in as many days, as he anchored for the distance medley relay on Friday night.
The Big 12 cross country champion and holder of Iowa State's outdoor 10,000 meters school record from December, Kiptoo made his move to the front against the field of seven with 400 to go. However, he was unable to hold on as both of Oregon's Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker overtook him heading into the final lap. Despite finishing third, Kiptoo was still able to bring home, the school record and the No. 4 time in NCAA Division I on the season at the time of publication.
The Iowa State men continued to demonstrate strength in depth in the middle distance events. With Cebastian Gentil and Jason Gomez taking a break after last night's school-record distance medley relay effort, Alex Lomong and Tanner Anderson led the Cyclones at 800 meters. Lomong took third in 1:50.11, while Anderson was fourth overall after winning his section in 1:51.19. David Thompson also won his section, posting a PR in the process of 1:53.04.
In the field, ISU got a strong effort from Jalaiya Bartley in the triple jump. She notched a season-best of 40-9 3/4 (12.44m) on her final jump to finish sixth, a distance that was her best since she set her PR of 41-9 3/4 at the 2019 Big 12 Indoor Championships. Bartley also notched a strong fourth jump, going 40-3 1/4 (12.27m).
