AMES, Iowa. – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) squares off against Nebraska (2-0, 1-0 Big 10) this Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. The meeting between the Cyclones and the Cornhuskers will be the first since 2019, where the Cyclones lost by a narrow margin of two points.
The dual marks the first chance to catch the Cyclones in action home at Beyer Pool since January. Iowa State is off to their best start in 15 seasons, where the 2006-07 squad also jumped out to a 3-0 start.Â
THE OPPONENT- NebraskaÂ
Iowa State holds a series record of 6-39-1 against Nebraska heading into the 47th matchup between the teams. The last victory came in 2003 where Iowa State won 163-126. More recently, the teams tied in the 2013-14 season. Since 2007, five meetings have ended in final scores within 12 points or less.Â
Nebraska travels to face Minnesota Friday, Oct. 29 before heading to Ames Saturday. This season, the Cornhuskers have reached victories over SDSU and conference-rival Iowa, winning by 189-54 and 193-54, respectively. Â
LAST TIME- SDSU and South Dakota
Iowa State posted the top three times through 12 events against SDSU and South Dakota. The 400 meter medley relay team of Emily Haan, Lehr Thorson, Lucia Rizzo and Sophia Goushchina set a new DakotaDome pool record with 4:17.80, setting the standard by .78 seconds. The previous record was set by Iowa State in 2018, sharing mutual current Cyclone swimmers Haan and Martha Haas. Newcomer Winter Craig also set the 200 meter fly DakotaDome record with 2:20.31, topping the record by 1.79 seconds.Â
Michelle Schlossmacher Smith notched the first Cyclone Zone cuts of the season, one on the one-meter and two on the three-meter. Sophomore Joscelyn Buss is off to early season success as she dove to her second PR of the season, this time on the one-meter with a score of 243.45.Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Career Point Barriers
Becoming an all-time point scorer is in sight for Rizzo as she holds 488, 23 points away from crossing the barrier. Rizzo is currently averaging 14.13 points per dual, the fifth-highest among all-time point scorers' careers.
Divers Schlossmacher Smith and Jayna Misra near milestones themselves as they brought their totals to 197 and 98 career points, respectively, following the South Dakota dual.Â
ON DECK- Omaha
The Cyclones return home Friday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. to face Omaha. Admission is free to Beyer Pool and open to the public.Â
