THE EVENT- Big 12 Championships
Student-athletes have recorded improvements or additions to nine events on the all-time performers list entering the championship. Two new all-time top times (1000 free, 400 IM) and three new top scores (one-meter, three-meter) have been turned in while two freshman have made the all-time freshman records list in the 1000 free and platform diving.
Sophomore Sophia Goushchina and senior Martha Haas have posted team-leading times in sprint free events. Freshman Trinity Sadecky, Ashley Bengtson and Andie Quirke have paired with the duo to produce consistent top or second-best times in dual meets.
Freshman have been a powerhouse in middle distance and distance events. The class has claimed all of the Cyclone's six event victories throughout the 200, 500 and 1000 free. Brinley Horras has tallied four titles while Sydney Jackson and Bengtson have both contributed to the win column.
Emily Haan leads the way in backstroke events as she has four season titles and the 100 and 200 back top season time to her name. Elizabeth Richardson has paired with Haan to make her presence known, much like on the podium at the 2020 Big 12 Championship for placing in the top eight.
Seniors Lehr Thorson, Martha Haas and Bryn Ericksen have produced a prominent force in breaststroke events. Thorson provided a sweep against UNI while Iowa State breaststrokers have went on to post a season total of 75 points.
Lucia Rizzo has dominated butterfly events along with Wyli Erlechman, posting top season times and each grabbing titles for the Cyclones. Team-leading point scorer Rizzo has accumulated 52 points throughout the season's three duals to add her career total to 405.
Junior Michelle Schlossmacher Smith ends dual competition undefeated on the three-meter. Schlossmacher Smith has dove to nine Zone cuts, including one 'A' cut and two 'B' cuts. Sophomore Jayna Misra has tallied five Zone cuts through eight performances, resulting in two 'A' cuts and one 'B' cut. Earlier this season, Joscelyn Buss made her entrance onto the all-time freshman records at No.4 on the platform.
Last year, Iowa State concluded the championship in fourth place with 459 points. Nine swimmers and divers earned All-Big 12 First or Second Team status.
LAST TIME- Kansas
Kansas came out on top 178-114 in the final dual of season. Iowa State divers posted the top scores in all diving events. Schlossmacher Smith dove to victories on the three-meter and platform while Misra solidified top placement on the one-meter.
