AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) faces Kansas (2-1, 1-0 Big 12) on Feb. 5 at 6 p.m and Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. at Robinson Natatorium. The two-day competition is the Cyclones' final dual of the season and only conference matchup prior to the Big 12 Championship.Â
THE OPPONENT- Kansas
Iowa State holds an overall record of 5-30 with Kansas. The Cyclones look for their first victory over Kansas since the 2013-14 season. Last year, the Jayhawks overtook the Cyclones by a score of 204-111.Â
Kansas met Big-12 foe TCU last October to come out with their first season victory while No. 17 Arkansas handed Kansas their lone loss of the season. The Jayhawks and Cyclones have both defeated Omaha this season by measurable margins.Â
LAST TIME- UNI
The Cyclones remain undefeated after picking up the victory over UNI. Divers dove to top-two scores in Iowa State history on the one- and three-meter. Jayna Misra's score of 320.55 on the one-meter was good for her second career 'A' cut Zone-qualifying score. Three diving 'A' cuts have been recorded on the season, tying with the 2016-17 season for the most marks over the 'A'Â qualifying cut in school history.Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Distance Events
Distance events will prove to be a battle as Iowa State and Kansas have put up similar times. Finishes have come within three seconds or less between the teams in the 500 and 1000 free. Freshman Brinley Horras (500 free, 1000 free) and Sydney Jackson (1000 free) both have knocked out times to enter the top 20 all-time performers lists. Jackson's 1000 free time also sets her at No. 4 on the freshman records list.Â
ON DECK- Big 12 Championship
Next up, the Cyclones head to Austin, Texas for the Big 12 Championship. Competition will begin with prelims the morning of Feb. 24 and continue through Feb. 27.
