AMES, Iowa – Iowa State is back on the track this Saturday at the Blue Oval Open, hosted by Drake in Des Moines. Competition will begin in the field at 1 p.m., with running events starting at 2 p.m.
There will be no live video from Saturday's meet. Live results will be provided by Drake, here. No fans or spectators are being permitted into Drake Stadium for Saturday's meet.
Iowa State will be sending a group of 24 student-athletes to Des Moines on Saturday, with the throws and distance groups getting special emphasis this weekend. Many Cyclones will be competing outdoors for the first time in Cardinal and Gold, with 14 of the 24 in line for outdoor debuts as Cyclones.
Five All-American are among the men's entries for ISU, with two-time All-American thrower Vlad Pavlenko scheduled to take part in the hammer throw at 2:50 p.m. Pavlenko's season-opening 212-2 (64.67m) at the Longhorn Invitational three weeks ago is ranked No. 11 nationally heading into the weekend. He will be joined in the men's hammer by Jonathan Gannon, Peter Kenn and Joe Ryan.
Three-fourths of ISU's Second Team All-America men's distance medley relay from the NCAA Indoor Championships are slated to run this weekend in the form of Cebastian Gentil (400m dash & 4x400), Joe Schaefer (1,500m run & 4x400) and Nehemia Too (800m and 1,500m runs). Charlie Johnson, who was a 2019 Second Team All-American in the 4x400-meter relay, is slated to compete in the 400m dash and 4x400.
David Too, the current national leader in the men's' 3,000-meter steeplechase, is entered in the 800 and 1,500 meter runs.
For the Iowa State women, the throwers will be among the highlighted performers tomorrow. Antonella Creazzola was the NJCAA National Champion in 2018 in the hammer throw and owns a PR of 189-0 (57.61m) and will finally get to make her Iowa State debut in the event on Saturday. Emily March and Keiara Williams will also take part in the women's hammer throw.
