AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field programs showed their strength in the classroom with both the men's and women's teams and 16 student-athletes (eight from each gender) being selected for USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards, announced on Thursday.
The Iowa State men saw four student-athletes double-up as both All-Americans during the track and field season and All-Academic honorees. Festus Lagat earned his third career All-Academic honor across track and field and cross country, while Eric Fogltanz, Scott Fuchs and Wesley Kiptoo earned their first career All-Academic honors at ISU. Thomas Pollard earned his sixth All-Academic honor across track and cross country and Mitchell Day his fourth. Daniel Nixon was named to the track and field All-Academic for the second-straight season, while Gable Sieperda is a first-time honoree.
Three of Iowa State's eight women's honorees added to collections, led by All-American Cailie Logue who got her sixth career All-Academic Award. Abby Caldwell got her fourth All-Academic honor, while Erika Furbeck repeated as a track and field All-Academic honoree. The Cyclone women's first-time recipients were Tatiana Aholou, Jalaiya Bartley, Dana Feyen, Kendra Leger and Janette Schraft.
In addition, both the men's and women's track and field teams received the Team All-Academic Award from the USTFCCCA.
To be eligible for the team award, teams must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0. To earn the individual award, student-athletes must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.25, and had to rank either in the top-96 of a championship individual event or the top-48 of a championship relay event.
