VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota scored the lone goal midway through the first half, as the Coyotes beat Iowa State 1-0 in the non-conference finale for the Cyclone soccer team Sunday afternoon at First Bank & Trust Complex.
Iowa State dropped to 3-5 on the season, while the Coyotes improved to 5-1-2. The Cyclones open Big 12 play on Friday, as Iowa State travels to 15th-ranked West Virginia. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (central) in Morgantown and will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
In the 25th minute, Jordan Centineo found Alexis Mitchell for a header that found the back of the net. The goal came on just two shots in the first half for the Coyotes, while they finished the match with just three shots on goal.
Anna Lindgren led the Cyclones with four shots, while Brooke Miller had a pair. Seven other Cyclones had a shot, including a shot on goal by Claudia Najera. Lindgren had three shots on goal, while Miller had two. Jordan Silkowitz dropped to 2-4 on the year in the net, as she recorded a pair of saves.
Iowa State had a 13-5 advantage in shots, including 10-3 in the second half. The Cyclones put six shots on goal, compared to three by the Coyotes.
