AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) faces off against Iowa (1-2, 0-2 Big Ten) on Friday at 6 p.m. The Hawkeyes will host as the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series pays a visit to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
THE OPPONENT- Iowa
Iowa holds the advantage over Iowa State with a series record of 31-15. Last season's victory of 191-79 over the Hawkeyes marked the largest margin of victory in the series, as well as their first win over the Hawkeyes since 2009. This season, Iowa has been handed losses by Big 10 competitors Nebraska and Minnesota.
LAST TIME- Mizzou Invite and Kansas Classic
Joscelyn Buss and Jayna Misra dove to three finals appearances at the Mizzou Invitational, bringing in 46 points for the Cyclones. Buss finalized three top-10 finishes and added a three-meter Zone-qualifying mark. Misra placed seventh in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards while earning the top-five placement for the platforms.
The swimmers brought home first out of five teams with 953 points at the Kansas Classic. Freshman Gabrielle LePine inched her way up the all-time performers list with her 100 breast 'A' finals time of 1:02.98, landing her spot at No. 12. Sydney Jackson swam to a first-place finish and time of 17:01.21 in 1650 free, earning No. 15 on the top performers list. Lucia Rizzo notched another win in her record-holding event of the 200 IM.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR- Season Time Drops and Personal Bests
The Cyclones look to continue improving times and scores while breaking school records against the Hawkeyes. In the last outing, Brinley Horras moved from No. 10 to 9 on the 1000 free performers list, which marks the 11th-fastest time in school history with a time of 10:07.73. Ashley Bengtson moved up one spot to No. 9 in the 200 free, touching the wall at 1:49.78. Winter Craig logged 2:02.13 in the 200 fly, good for No. 20 on the list, which was her second time contributing to the list. Lucia Rizzo recorded two personal bests in the 100 fly and 200 IM that earned her name on the top performances and times list.
Divers cemented numerous Zone cuts in their last dual appearance, including Joscelyn Buss' three-meter mark that was the second of her career. Lauren Kimball recorded a new PR of 268.10 in the event for fifth place.
ON DECK – Georgia Diving Invite and Double Dual against UNI and West Virginia
The divers will first travel to Athens, Georgia to compete in the Georgia Diving Invite on Sunday, Jan. 1 through Saturday, Jan. 7. The Cyclones will play host for their first double dual of the season against UNI and their first Big 12 matchup, West Virginia. The teams will go head-to-head on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. Admission to Beyer Pool is free and open to the public.
