TULSA, Okla. – Iowa State added a pair of NCAA qualifiers Saturday afternoon, as the Cyclones will send eight automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Championships.
Ramazan Attasauov (133) and Marcus Coleman (184) each finished third with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon. Jarrett Degen (149) and Sam Schuyler (285) each finished fourth, while Ian Parker (141) and Yonger Bastida (197) came in fifth. Isaac Judge (165) finished sixth. Joel Devine (174) won his seventh-place match, while Kysen Terukina (125) finished eighth.
In the finals, No. 1 David Carr will face NDSU's No. 2 Jared Franek in a rematch of the 2021 championship match. Carr is 4-0 all-time against Franek, including an 8-2 decision in last year's final. The finals start at 7 p.m. Sunday night on ESPN2.
Missouri locked up the team title in the afternoon, as they enter the finals with 127.5 points. Oklahoma is second with 113, while Iowa State is third with 106. Oklahoma State is fourth with 96.5 points.
Attasauov started the day with a 2-1 win over Oklahoma's No. 7 Anthony Madrigal, using a point for riding time to lock up the win. In the third-place match, Attasauov beat Air Force's Sidney Flores 8-5.
At 184 pounds, No. 2 Coleman opened the day with an 18-2 technical fall over NDSU's DJ Parker Jr. Coleman led 6-0 after the first period and added nine points in the third. In the third-place match, Coleman added more bonus points with a 19-6 major decision over No. 7 Keegan Moore (OU). Coleman led 10-3 into the third period before adding nine points in the final third.
In the consolation quarterfinals, Degen trailed Missouri's Josh Edmond 8-6 after the first period and 10-8 going into the third. Degen trailed 13-8 with :32 left and recorded an escape (:28), takedown (:20) and two nearfall points as time expired for the victory. In the third-place match, UNI's Colin Realbuto defeated Degen 8-6.
No. 3 Schuyler advanced to the third-place match with a 5-3 victory over No. 8 Josh Heindselman (OU). In the third-place match, No. 2 Zach Elam (MIZ) defeated Schuyler 6-1 with four points in the final period.
Parker dropped a 5-3 decision to NDSU's Dylan Droegemueller in the consolation semifinals on a third period reversal. Parker bounced back in the fifth-place match, defeating Oklahoma's Jacob Butler 8-7. Parker had a third-period takedown and a point for riding time to complete the comeback.
Bastida had a defensive battle in the consolation semifinals, as he dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 3 Jake Woodley (OU). Woodley escaped :08 into the second period for the win. Bastida won the fifth-place match by medical forfeit.
Judge dropped a pair of matches, as he finished sixth. In the opening match, NDSU's No. 5 Luke Weber defeated Judge 7-1 before Oklahoma's No. 8 Joe Grello beat Judge 6-2.
At 174 pounds, Joel Devine had a takedown in the first and third periods, as he beat No. 8 Dennis Robin (WVU) to finish seventh.
Terukina gave up a takedown :29 into sudden victory, as Noah Surtin (MIZ) locked up the seventh-place match.
