AMES, Iowa -Â Iowa State finished the 2021-22 wrestling season with three All-Americans and a 17th place finish as a team at the NCAA Championships. David Carr became a three-time All-American at 157 pounds, while Marcus Coleman (184 Pounds) and Yonger Bastida (197 Pounds) earned All-American honors for the first time. During the dual meet season, the Cyclones were 15-1 overall, with the lone loss coming to top-ranked Iowa. Iowa State was 8-0 in Big 12 duals, finishing the conference slate as the only undefeated team in the league.
KEY STORYLINES
-With a third-place finish at 157 pounds, junior David Carr became the 35th three-time All-American in program history.
-Iowa State now has 304 All-Americans in program history coming from 160 individuals.
-Marcus Coleman became the first Cyclone All-American at 184 pounds since Jake Varner in 2008.
-David Carr's opening round 21-6 technical fall over Northern Iowa's Derek Holschlag was the 1,600th all-time win at the NCAA Championships by a Cyclone.
-In Friday's morning session, Coleman beat Oklahoma State's Dakota Geer 18-13 in the 2,500th all-time match by a Cyclone at the NCAA Championships.
-With nine NCAA qualifiers, Iowa State sent at least eight wrestlers to the NCAA Championships for the fourth-straight year.
-Jarrett Degen became the first five-time NCAA qualifier in school history. Degen is a two-time All-American at 149 pounds, finishing seventh in 2019.
-Ian Parker (141) and Marcus Coleman (184) became the 47th and 48th wrestlers in school history to qualify at least four times for the NCAA Championships. Parker earned All-American honors in 2019, while Coleman has qualified four times at three different weight classes.
