Cyclones Drop Regular Season Opener in the Desert

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Iowa State (0-1-0) soccer fell to Arizona (1-0-0) on Thursday night, as the Wildcats netted two goals in the final ten minutes to claim the 2-1 victory.
Iowa State scored first in the 46th minute, as Senior Jasmine Colbert collected her first career Cyclone goal off a Mira Emma assist. The Wildcats, however, were on the offensive attack for most of the second half to score a pair of goals. Â

Iowa State had an early attempt in the first two minutes of the match including a shot from junior Salomé Prat that was saved.Â

Prat tallied two shots on goal in the first period.

Prat received a straight red card in the 27th minute.

Sophomore Leia Khairy and Jasmine Colbert each recorded a shot in the first period.

Senior Jordan Silkowitz recorded two saves in the first 45 minutes while Arizona recorded a total of seven shots in the first frame.

In the 46th minute, Jasmine Colbert recorded her first Iowa State goal from a Mira Emma assist.

The assist was Emma's seventh assist as a Cyclone.

Iowa State did not record a shot until the 75th minute when junior Schuyler Riese saw a crease, but it was saved.

Jordan Silkowitz recorded three second period saves before the Wildcats found the back of the net in the 80th minute.

Arizona would then take the lead with a second goal in the 84th minute.

Arizona out-shot the Cyclones 19-6 in the contest and held a 15-3 corner advantage.
