SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Iowa State women's golf claimed the team title at the San Diego State Classic, held at The Farms Golf Club. This was the first team victory since the East and West Match Play Championship in 2019. Iowa State was the only team in the field to card a 54-hole total below 900 with an 897 (303-289-305) that included a final round 305 to solidify the win.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn notched another top-five finish, placing third in the individual standings. The freshman fired rounds of 76, 70 and a final round 73 to conclude the tournament with a 219 total. Chul-Ak-Sorn recorded seven birdies over the course of the tournament to help earn her fourth top-five finish of the year.Â
Coming in second on the team was Liyana Durisic, who placed in a tie for seventh in the medalist race. Durisic posted a final tally of 225 (76-73-76) and defeated four of the six players ranked inside Golfstat's top-100.Â
Ruby Chou's spectacular week put three Cyclones inside the top-10. Chou finished in 10th place after carding rounds of 76, 73 and 78 to finish just two shots back of Durisic. Chou also led the team in birdies (8) with two of them coming late in her final round when the team needed it the most.
Taglao Jeeravivitaporn pushed the squad on day one, firing rounds of 75 and 73. A minor set back in the final round placed Jeeravivitaporn just outside the top-15 in the individual standings, but the senior continued to fight. Jeeravivitaporn concluded with a 230 54-hole total tying for 17th place.Â
Pammy Chookaew rounded out the Cyclones top-five with a 235 (82-75-78) total. Chookaew placed in a tie for 31st and played an important role in the final round of the tournament. Chookaew's 78 kept the Cyclones in the lead by four shots over No. 39 Georgia.Â
The Cyclones will be back in action on Feb. 27 at the Houston Icon Invite. The tournament will consist of a 36-hole day followed by the final 18-holes on Feb. 28.Â
