AMES, Iowa – No. 4 Iowa State makes the trip East to Iowa City to compete against No. 40 Iowa in the 51st annual showdown. The matchup is part of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, which Iowa State has clinched for the second-straight season and leads 13-9 heading into the tennis showdown.

The Series
Iowa currently leads the all-time series 41-9, however, the Cyclones have won the last two matches. Last year when the school's went head-to-head, Iowa State swept Iowa, 4-0. The Cyclones have not beaten the Hawkeyes on their home court since October of 1976, a losing streak that has stood 47 years and spanned 26 matches.
Last Time Out
Last Saturday, Iowa State handed Old Dominion their second loss of the season, beating the Monarchs, 4-1. To read more about last weekend, click here.
Player to Watch
Ange Oby Kajuru comes into the weekend with a singles record of 16-3 and a singles winning percentage of .842, a team best. Two of her three losses on the year come against opponents that were ranked within the Top 40.
With a career record of 22-7 at the No. 2 singles spot, the sophomore from Tokyo, Japan ranks fifth all-time for wins at that spot. Kajuru is closing in quickly at being the winningest athlete at the No. 2 singles spot as only 10 wins separate her from the current record holder, Sue Mobed (32-28).
Cyclone Tennis Quick Hit
Head coach Boomer Saia and his squad have won nine of their last 11 matches, including a 5-2 record against teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. The Cyclones have yet to have a home match which makes this historic start to the season even more impressive.
In the Rankings
Iowa State was ranked at the No. 4 spot in the most recent ITA National Team computerized rankings, which is a new program record for the third week in a row and the fourth time this season.
The Cyclones have four singles players ranked at the same time for the first time in program history as well. Highlighting the singles rankings is senior Thasaporn Naklo at No. 54. Junior Miska Kadleckova jumped 60 spots and is ranked No. 63. Followed closely behind Kadleckova is Kajuru at No. 70 and Anna Supapitch Kuearum rounds out the singles rankings at No. 115.
In doubles, Chie Kezuka and Kajuru lead their peers again, coming in at No. 32. Right behind them is Naklo and Supapitch Kuearum at No. 39 and Kadleckova and Kajuru sit at No. 59.
Despite having no individual players ranked, the Hawkeyes come in ranked as the No. 40 team in the country.

"It's one that is very easy to get up for, it's the biggest rivalry in the state," Saia said. "Continuing to climb that mountain and not rest on anything we have accomplished to this point."
