SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – The Iowa State women's golf team was red-hot during the second round of the Mountain View Intercollegiate. The Cyclones carded a 23-under 265 in round two to claim the lead over No. 23 Ohio State University by 15 shots.
The team's second round 265 was the lowest 18-hole team score in program history, surpassing their previous 266 effort at the Schooner Fall Classic earlier this season. Iowa State combined for 26 birdies, two eagles and only eight bogeys on the day.
Leading the way for the Cyclones was Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn. The freshman recorded her second-straight bogey-free round of the tournament and broke the Iowa State individual 18-hole scoring mark after firing a 10-under round of 62 that included eight birdies and one eagle.
Chul-Ak-Sorn sits atop the individual standings by seven shots over Caitlyn Macnab, of TCU. To begin her day, Chul-Ak-Sorn knocked in three birdies and an eagle in her first six holes. She made the turn at 12-under par for the tournament and tacked on another five birdies to increase her lead to seven.
Liyana Durisic was one shot away from tying her career-low round. Durisic fired a six-under round of 66 to jump into a tie for eighth place. Her round consisted of five birdies, one bogey and an eagle on the 15th hole.
Ruby Chou remains in a tie for 10th place after day two of the tournament. Chou posted back-to-back rounds of 70 and will head into the final round at four-under-par in the individual standings. Chou knocked in six birdies on the day and has recorded 10 total on the week.
Pammy Chookaew raced up the leaderboard during round two and will head into the final 18-holes tied for 13th place. Chookaew carded a career-low 67 and sits at three-under-par for the tournament. The freshman's career day included five birdies and zero bogeys.
Taglao Jeeravivitaporn rounded out the top-five for the Cyclones. The senior finished in a tie for 32nd after carding back-to-back even rounds of 72. Jeeravivitaporn has recorded five birdies and only five bogeys this week.
