The Series
Iowa State is 8-47 in the all-time series against Kansas. However, the Cyclones have taken the last four meetings between the two schools, including a 6-1 win at home and a 4-1 victory at the Big 12 Tournament in Lawrence last year. Iowa State will be looking to make it five in a row as they travel to Lawrence this weekend.
Last Time Out
The Cyclones opened up Big 12 play with matches against Kansas State and top-ranked Oklahoma State on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Anna Supapitch Kuearum scored a ranked win over Kansas State's No. 58 Vanesa Suarez, but despite battling, Iowa State could not come out with a win. To read more about last weekend, click here.
Player to Watch
Kuearum has been performing impressively as of late, with ranked wins over No. 85 Daianne Hayashida (Iowa) and No. 58 Suarez. Kuearum's record for the season now is 13-10, and 5-4 during the dual season.
With a win this weekend, Kuearum would pass her most wins at a singles spot during the dual season with six singles wins. Kuearum is currently tied with five dual singles wins at the No. 4 spot during the 2022-23 season. The junior from Bangkok will look to grab her 14th singles win of the year as the Cyclones take on the Jayhawks.
Cyclone Tennis Quick Hit
This match against Kansas will mark the first dual match for Jaron Maestas against his former school. Maestas had been the associate head coach at Kansas for the past two seasons, taking them to back-to-back NCAA tournament bids before taking over the Cyclones in 2023. Maestas will look to score a win against the Jayhawks in his first season as Iowa State's head coach.
