AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving team lost their first conference meet to the Missouri Tigers 126-169. The Cyclones found two freshman performances to be very valuable. Marni Benson and Haley Haynes won two events each for the night.
Benson took first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.76 and also finished in the top spot for the 200 breaststroke (2:20.74).
Haynes won both diving events for the evening. On the 1 meter board she won with 256.87 and on the 3 meter she tallied 294.83 points.
Senior Kim Rogers took first place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.03. Seniors Lydia Smirniotis (4:43.22) and Shannon Parker (4:57.24) followed in third and fourth place.
The 400 free relay team of senior Maggie Peterson, junior Cassandra Nelson, senior Tami Ritchie and freshman Lindsay Wegner hit the wall first with a time of 3:38.35.
Junior Chelsey Walden came in second place in both the 1000 and 500 free.
The Cyclones will travel to Omaha, Neb. Friday, Jan. 27 to meet Nebraska-Omaha and Northern Colorado at 6 p.m. Results can be found at www.cyclones.com.
