Concord, N.C. ? The Iowa State men's golf team will be gunning for its third consecutive tournament win as it heads out to the 49'er Collegiate Classic Oct. 23-24. The Cyclones are coming off a victory at the Big Four Championship, their first win at the event since 2001. ISU also captured a title at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev., breaking the school record in a 54-hole event by eight strokes, and finished second at the Kansas Invitational. Iowa State is rated 51st nationally in Golfweek's Oct. 16 rankings.
All six Cyclones placed in the top-12 as ISU clipped defending champion and runner-up Drake by three strokes at the Big Four Championship in Cedar Rapids. As a team, the Cyclones recorded the school's fourth-best 18-round total with a first-round score of 290. Joe Cermak recorded his second top-10 finish this season by placing fourth along with Chris Baker to pace Iowa State individually.
Cermak paces the team in stroke average through four events at a 71.63 clip after 11 rounds. John Larson, a transfer from the University of Minnesota, will be competing in his third event of the season after finishing sixth at the Big Four Championship, his first career top-10 finish. True freshman Ross Menke will be competing individually.
The Cyclones will begin the spring season Feb. 18-19 when they compete at the Santa Anita Classic in Guadalajara, Mexico.
