Guided by seventh-year coach Jay Horton, the Iowa State men's golf team is ranked second in the Big 12 Conference and 36th nationally at the conclusion of fall competition in Golfstat's Nov. 2 rankings. The Cyclones led the conference with two wins in five events and were third in team scoring average at a 290.36 clip, trailing defending national champion Oklahoma State (289.56) and Texas (289.78). Texas and Kansas were the only schools other than Iowa State to register a tournament victory in fall action.
Iowa State shattered the team tournament record by eight strokes as it rallied to defeat Utah at the Wolf Pack Classic and defeated in-state rivals Northern Iowa, Iowa and Drake at the Big Four Championship in Cedar Rapids.
Joe Cermak was rated ninth to pace Iowa State in the individual conference rankings as the junior finished the fall season as the team leader in stroke average with a 72.25 mark.
The Cyclones open up their spring season Feb. 18-19 at the Santa Anita Classic in Guadalajara, Mexico.
