AMES, Iowa - - Coming off an impressive performance against the Northern Iowa, Iowa State will hit the road this Friday to take on the University of Iowa Hawkeyes in a Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series matchup. The Hawkeyes currently lead the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series, 7-4, with basketball and swimming and diving both taking place in
The Cyclones come into the match with a dual record of 5-0, with their last victory coming against the Panthers, 195-94.
Under the direction of third year head coach Marc Long, the Hawkeyes enter Friday's meet with a dual record of 4-5.
“This is a really great rivalry with extremely intense competition and it will come down to who wants it the most and as a team we are looking forward to it. It should be a really fun meet,” head coach Duane Sorenson said.
Against the Panthers, Benson swam in four events, claiming three first place finishes. Benson won the 100 breast (1:05.78), the 200 breast (2:25.12) and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:49.40). She was also a part of the third place 200 free relay team (1:42.51).
Breunig also captured a pair of first place finishes against UNI, winning the 1000 free (10:54.51) and was a member of the first place 200 free relay team (1:39.83). She also finished just behind Benson in the 200 breast as she finished second with a time of (2:28.32).
“It is shaping up to be a great meet, each team seems to bring out the best in one another,” said Sorenson.
