DALLAS, Texas - Three Iowa State men's golfers were named to the 2006 Big 12 academic all-Big 12 team, announced today by the Big 12 office. Chris Baker, Rodney Hamblin and John Larson all earned first-team honors for the first time in their careers.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
A native of Brownstown, Ind., Baker leads the team in stroke average at 75.16. The business major made the all-Big 12 Tournament team in 2005. Hamblin, a junior sports management major from St. Paul, Minn., has played in all 13 tournaments this season, compiling a 77.10 stroke average. Larson, who hails from Springfield, Minn., is in his first season with ISU after transferring from Minnesota. The sophomore communication studies major has a 76.91 stroke average while playing in every tournament.
