AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State men's golf team is in 12th place after two rounds of Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational. The Cyclones shot rounds of 307- 316 for a 623 final tally. The cold and windy conditions in West Lafayette, Ind., called for bitter temperatures for all 12 teams during the first 36-holes.
Indiana is currently leading the tournament after carding 301-287 for a 588 final score. The Boilermakers are in second place with a total of 598. Notre Dame is in third place and 9 strokes behind Purdue. Louisville (308-300=608) and Wisconsin (300-312=612) round out the top five.
Sophomore Chris Baker led the Cyclones carding rounds of 73-77 for a 150 final on the day. Sophomore Joe Cermak shot a 77 and 79 and is currently tied for 31st place. Junior Rodney Hamblin posted a 78-80=158 and is tied 41. Sophomore John Larson fired a 79-80=159. Redshirt junior Curtis Foster tallied a 172 after two rounds of play.
The invitational is being held at the 7,083-yard, par-72 Kampen Course. The Kampen Course is a Pete Dye design and will host the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. This tournament marks the Cyclones' final regular season event.
The remaining 18-holes will be played Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
