AMES, Iowa- Iowa State junior golfer Joe Cermak won a sectional qualifier to earn a spot in the 2006 United States Amateur Championship, Aug. 21-27 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Cermak, a native of Chicago, Ill., carded a two-round 140 total at the University of Illinois Golf Course in Savoy, Ill., to earn his first appearances at the prestigious event. Competitors play two rounds of stroke play with the top 64 players advancing to the match play portion.
