AMES, Iowa ? The Cyclone men's golf team will head to Richmond, Va., Monday to take part in the VCU Shootout. The two-day tournament is being held at the Hermitage County Club on the 6,961-yard, par 72 Manakin course. This is the first year in the tournament's three-year history that the competition is being held on the Manakin course.
The 15-team tournament will feature an array of talented clubs including 11 that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. Last year's tournament champion, Penn State, will also be competing.
The Cyclones are coming off one of their best starts in school history after winning back-to-back tournaments at the Big Four Championship and the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite. This has brought the team's record to an impressive 19-0-1.
Chris Baker has been a big part of the Cyclone's success. The senior from Brownstown, Ind., has finished first or second place, respectively, in ISU's first two outings. He broke the 18-hole school record with a 64 in the final round of the Big Four Championship. His current stroke average of 68.4 is also on pace to break the Cyclone single-season stroke average record.
