TRINITY, Texas?The Iowa State men's golf team carded a final-round 303 this afternoon to finish ninth at the 2008 Big 12 Men's Golf Championships in Trinity, Texas. The Cyclones posted a four-round 1206 total, four strokes behind eighth-place Kansas State. Oklahoma State won the team title, finishing 20 shots ahead of second-place Texas at 1141.
ISU's Ben Herrera and Chris Baker both tied for 13th with a 294 tally to pace the Cyclones. Herrera led all Cyclones today by shooting an even-par 72. Baker, who was just one stroke shy of recording his 10th top-10 finish of the season, fired a 75 this afternoon.
A pair of OSU golfers finished first and second in the medalist race. Rickie Fowler won the individual title with a 279, four strokes ahead of teammate Kevin Tway at 283
The meet ends ISU's 2007-08 season. Baker, a senior from Brownstown, Ind., is currently ranked in the top-70 nationally and has an excellent chance to earn an individual slot at the NCAA Regional Tournament, May 15-17. NCAA Regional selections will be made on May 5.
