Cyclones Tied For Seventh At Oak Hills Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Iowa State men's golf team tied for 7th out of 17 teams at the Oak Hills Invitational this afternoon, as the Cyclones opened their spring season. The Cyclones tallied a three-round 880 total. Team champion Texas Tech, ranked 20th according to GolfWeek, shot an 837, 12 strokes ahead of second place Oklahoma (849), ranked 49th.

Leading the pack for the Cyclones was junior Nate McCoy, who carded rounds of 71-71-74 (216) to finish tied for 18th place as an individual. Michael Wuertz tied for 34th with rounds of 73-74-74 (221). Borja Virto tied his career low 18 with a 71 and Tom Lathrop recorded a 72 this afternoon. Nils Floren of Texas Tech won the medalist title with a 208.

The next tournament for the Cyclones will be the Desert Shootout on March 17-19 in Phoenix, Ariz.
