CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Iowa State men's golf team won both of its matches in Big Four action at the Lone Tree Country Club on Saturday, defeating Northern Iowa and Iowa in match play competition.
Iowa State beat Northern Iowa in the semi-finals, winning all six matches. In the final round, Iowa State defeated No. 11 Iowa 4-2.
Nate McCoy, Michael Wuertz, Borja Virto and Nathan Leary all won matches for the Cyclones vs. Iowa. McCoy defeated Vince India, the No. 8-ranked player in the nation, Wuertz defeated Brad Hopfinger, Virto beat Chris Brant and Leary defeated Barrett Kelpin
"I am very proud and pleased with our team's effort this weekend," Iowa State head coach Andrew Tank said. "We beat one of the best team's in the country today and I think that says a lot about what our guys are capable of."
