FT. MYERS, Fla. - Iowa State senior Marie-Christine Chartier dominated her singles bracket at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational, winning the sixth singles flight after beating Wichita State's Montse Fernandez 7-6 (3), 6-1. Monday.

"She didn't lose a beat from the fall," Iowa State head coach Armando Espinosa said of Chartier. "She left November playing a great game, she did really well at Western Michigan and just picked it up from there."

The Repentigny, Quebec native also enjoyed a doubles win, partnering with Emma Waites in the round robin competition. The duo defeated Florida Gulf Coast's Bettina Botha and Zhoe Solaun 8-3, to finish 2-1 overall in the tournament. The pair's victory was the only doubles win of the day for Iowa State.

In other singles action, four other Cyclones placed this weekend. Emma Waites, Jenna Langhorst and Simona Cacciuttolo earned third-place honors at the conclusion of the tournament, while freshman Ksenia Pronina snagged a seventh-place spot.

"We saw great competition," Espinosa said. "The team got to see that not everything is power, and towards the end, if the tournament had gone longer, we would have continued to do well. We're doing better in singles and we're going to take that indoors with us."

With the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational wrapped up, the Cyclone tennis team will have next weekend off. Iowa State will return to the courts against Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. on Jan. 28.
