ANTALYA, Turkey - Iowa State sophomore golfer Scott Fernandez made the most out of his experience competing at the World Amateur last week in Antalya, Turkey. The native of Granada, Spain tied for 13th as an individual, helping his Spanish team tie for ninth.
The World Amateur was held from Oct. 4-7 and featured the world's best amateurs in a team setting, as 72 countries competed in the annual event.
Fernandez fired rounds of 68-72-69 for a 54-hole 209 tally. Sebastian Vazquez of Mexico won the individual title with a 199, one shot better the United States' Chris Williams (Washington), the world's top-ranked amateur.
Fernandez, who finished runner-up medalist in his first two collegiate tournaments this year, will reunite with his Cyclone teammates at the Bridgestone Collegiate, Oct. 27-28.
