CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Iowa State men's golf team started the spring season at the Big Four Meet, placing second with a 1-1 record at the Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz., on Saturday, Feb. 4.
All four teams competed in medal match play competition.
In the first round, the Cyclones defeated UNI, 4-2. Nate McCoy, Scott Fernandez, Borja Virto and Blake Waller all secured wins for the Cyclones.
In the final match, Iowa State tied Iowa at 3-3 with McCoy, Sam Daley and Virto earning wins. Iowa won on a tiebreaker with the lowest total score.
McCoy was 5 under-par (137) during the two rounds. Waller was second at 141 and Sam Daley posted a 143, placing him third among all Cyclones.
The Cyclones are back in action February 13-14 at the Texas-San Antonio Invitational.
