Fernandez Leads Golfers To Fourth Place Finish

LAREDO, Texas - Scott Fernandez and Nate McCoy each recorded top-10 finishes, as the Iowa State men's golf team placed fourth out of 16 teams at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.

Iowa State carded rounds of 296-305-292 for a three-round 893 total, five strokes behind third-place Houston (888). Lamar won the team title with a score of 870.

Fernandez, who posted his third top-10 finish of the season, shot a final-round 74 this afternoon to help him tie for fifth at 217 (69-74-74). His first-round 69 was his fifth sub-70 round of the season.

Nate McCoy continued his outstanding season, recording his 11th career top-10 showing by placing 10th at 220. McCoy shot rounds of 73-77-70, as the Cyclone leader notched his fifth top-10 tournament of the year. Freshman Sam Daley tied for 16th at 222.

Iowa State heads to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU National Invitational on March 31.
