AMES, Iowa - The Cyclone softball team includes eight newcomers, six freshmen and two sophomore transfers, this season. Each week, cyclones.com will feature one of the nine newcomers, allowing fans to get to know the players off the field.
San Antonio, Texas native Jorden Smith has started 33 games for Iowa State this season, hitting .253 and lashing the Cyclones' only triple of the season, against Western Illinois. The freshman outfielder is third on the club with a .269 average in Big 12 play and second in slugging with a .538 mark. Smith has put two of her seven league hits over the outfield walls this spring.
Entering Wednesday's 4:30 p.m. CST Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game with Iowa, Smith is on a season-long three game hitting streak.
