AMES, Iowa - The Cyclone softball team includes nine newcomers, seven freshmen and two sophomore transfers, this season. Each week, cyclones.com will feature one of the nine newcomers, allowing fans to get to know the players off the field.
Sophomore transfer Taylor Smith has had an immediate impact on the Cyclones softball squad, spending 43 innings in the circle for Iowa State in 16 appearances, including eight starts. Smith's first win of the season was in Iowa State's 6-2 win over Santa Clara on March 17. The game was also Smith's first complete game.
Pitching against Drake in Ames, Smith shut down the Bulldogs, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out two in a complete game, 1-0 shutout.
Smith and the Cyclones are in action at home this weekend, hosting No. 10 Missouri. Competition begins Friday at 4 p.m. CST at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
