SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Iowa State men's golf team completed its first meet of the year today in Sugar Grove, Ill., placing ninth at the Northern Intercollegiate with a three-round 931 tally. Indiana won the tournament with a team total of 888, 15 strokes ahead of second place St. Mary's (Calif.) (903).

Iowa State received another outstanding performance from sophomore Scott Fernandez. Fernandez tied for second in the medalist race with rounds of 74-74-71 (219). It marks Fernandez' seventh top-10 finish of his career.

Zach Steffen competed this weekend as an individual and posted the second best score by a Cyclone. His three round total of 236 placed him in a tie for 34th.

Iowa State is back in action, Sept. 24-25 at the VCU Shootout.
