SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Iowa State men's golf team opened spring competition Monday at the UTSA Invitational. The Cyclones currently sit in 13th place after two rounds, carding a two-round 607 total (304-303). North Texas currently leads the team competition at 571 (284-287).
Ben Hogan Award Watch List member Scott Fernandez provided an anchor in the early rounds for the Cyclones. Fernandez, who has a 142 tally through two rounds (72-70), ended the day at even par and in a tie for fifth place with Oklahoma's Will Kropp. The sophomore is four strokes out of first place.
In the medalist race, Rodolfo Cazaubon (70-68) of North Texas and Ryan Werre (69-69) of UTSA are leading the individual competition at 4-under par.
The third and final round of the UTSA Invitational will be completed tomorrow.
